Lisa-Marie Gibbs is a visual artist whose interdisciplinary practice explores the interconnectedness of humanity through themes of fragility, memory, loss, love, desire, and healing. Drawing forms the foundation of her work, extending into photography, printmaking, poetry, film, and installation.
Her studio practice investigates ritual, spiritual materiality, and the agency of objects, exploring how meaning is produced through acts of making and looking. Through an interdisciplinary approach, she situates intimate gestures within broader social, philosophical, and embodied frameworks, creating work that invites reflection, connection, and dialogue.
Lisa-Marie is the founder and artistic director of The Engine Room, an interdisciplinary arts organisation that brings together artists, communities, and partners to develop ambitious creative projects, commissions, and socially engaged programmes. Through The Engine Room, she creates spaces for collaboration, dialogue, and artistic exchange, extending her commitment to creativity as a catalyst for personal and collective transformation.
Over the past 30 years, Lisa-Marie has worked with communities affected by conflict, displacement, imprisonment, mental ill health, homelessness, disability, and social exclusion, both in the UK and internationally. These experiences continue to inform her practice and her belief in the arts as a catalyst for individual and collective healing. She has received numerous awards recognising the impact of her community-engaged work.
